The Home Buyer Education Program provides you with important information on household budgeting, upkeep, affordability and the home purchase process.

Home Buyer Education Completion is Required* to Purchase a 24:1 Community Land Trust Home or Receive Down Payment Assistance.
Course fees are nonrefundable.

Online Training

Complete our online home buyer education on your schedule.

It is available in English or Spanish. The fee is $125.00.

When you have completed the on-line course, Beyond Housing will contact you to schedule the counseling session. Beyond Housing will provide your certificate at the counseling session.

HOW DOES THE PROGRAM WORK?
  • Our program is designed to educate, counsel, advocate, and assist home buyers with the home buying process. We do this by providing home buyer education that covers the benefits of homeownership, credit, lending practices, home inspections, and more. Our home ownership advisors assist with credit building, budgeting, and savings plans. Our lending department is there to facilitate down payment and closing cost assistance and be an advocate for our clients throughout the home buying process.
HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM HOMEOWNERSHIP READY?
  • This is determined in your one-on-one advising session. Your status can be verified with your advisor.
HOW DO I KNOW IF FUNDS ARE AVAILABLE IN THE AREA I AM BUYING?
CAN I USE DOWN PAYMENT ASSISTANCE WITH MISSOURI HOUSING DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION (MHDC)?
  • Yes, our lending department can provide you with more detailed information.
HOW MUCH DOWN PAYMENT AND CLOSING COST ASSISTANCE CAN I QUALIFY FOR?
ARE THERE CERTAIN LENDERS AND REALTORS THAT I MUST WORK WITH?
  • We work with all lenders and realtors and offer monthly training sessions to assist in understanding how the program works and what is required.
  • Lenders and realtors interested in our training session should email Stacey Preston at spreston@beyondhousing.org.

Title companies are welcome to have certified title agents join our team. Agents must be trained in order to become a certified title agent with Beyond Housing. Please email Stacey Preston at spreston@beyondhousing.org for more information.

Fees for the on-site class are as follows:

  • In-Class: If paid in advance upon registration, the on-site course fee is $95.00.
  • In-Class: If paid at the door, the on-site course fee is $125.00
  • On-Line: $125.00 fee

On-Line Registration fees are non-refundable.  No refunds are awarded.  In the case of computer usage becoming unavailable, Beyond Housing will make an on-site course available at no additional cost.  No refund will be awarded for any difference in cost of classes.

In-Class Registration fees are non-refundable.  However, with 24-hour advance notice before the class-start time, we will gladly re-schedule you for another date on our schedule.  Please see more in-depth information regarding our Retake and Refund Policy.

The following are the “Terms” that govern your use of services with Beyond Housing:

  • By using the online course payment option, you expressly agree to be bound by and comply with these Terms and Conditions and all applicable laws and regulations.
  • Beyond Housing reserves the right to change these Terms at any time.

Rescheduling and Refunds

In the event that you are unable to attend class, 24 hours notice is required prior to the course start time.  If requested before the 24-hour window, Beyond Housing will reschedule your class for a future onsite course on our calendar.  The option to take the online education course for an additional fee in lieu of the onsite course will be made available by contacting Beyond Housing directly.

No refunds are awarded.  Two reschedules are available to clients of Beyond Housing before payment is forfeited.  If you are unable to attend your initial course, you must contact a Homeownership Education staff member to reschedule your course 24 hours PRIOR to the course start time.  

Cancelled or Postponed Class

Occasionally, classes are cancelled or postponed by Beyond Housing due to low enrollment, weather conditions or other situations affecting volunteers, personnel or staff.  In the event that a class is cancelled or postponed by Beyond Housing, we will place you in the next available class and rescheduling will not count toward possible forfeiture of fees.  In this case, please contact Beyond Housing directly for seating availability. You can apply your payment to an online course if another onsite class is not available.

The information you provide to Beyond Housing shall be collected, used and disclosed in accordance with our Privacy Policy.
