Overview:
Beyond Housing is a nationally recognized community development organization dedicated to strengthening families and transforming our under-resourced communities to create a stronger, more equitable, and prosperous St. Louis, once and for all.
Position:
The Porter will support the maintenance team in a wide variety of skilled and unskilled tasks relating to the repair and upkeep of Wellington Family Homes, a recent 55 million dollar rehab of 186 scattered site homes and apartments located in Wellston, MO.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Monitor and maintain light custodial tasks and groundskeeping throughout property, ensuring grounds are litter free
- Perform light maintenance duties such as: install light bulbs, window blind repair, semiannual pest control, interior/exterior painting, debris removal, etc
- Assist with unit preparation for occupancy
- Basic troubleshooting and routine maintenance
- Other duties as assigned
Experience and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required
- 2 years’ experience in rental maintenance and/or similar field required
- An above average knowledge of electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and mechanical systems
- Ability to carry out other tasks, perform physical labor, operate tools and machinery, and lift at least 80 lbs.
- Ability to work in wet, damp, hot, cold, or dusty places
- Ability to stoop or kneel in order to gain access to work areas
- Ability to work while standing for extended periods of time
- Ability to communicate professionally with tenants
- Must respond to 24-hour maintenance emergencies during evening, weekend, and holiday hours. Schedule is based on a department rotation
- Must have valid class E license and valid insurance. Truck or van transportation is preferred

Salary and Benefits:
- Full-time hourly position with benefits for full-time position as determined in Beyond Housing Employee Handbook
- $18-20 per hour
