Housing Changes Lives

When Dorian and her children fled an abusive marriage, she had nothing and didn’t know where they would go. “I was a single mother with horrible credit, no furniture, no savings, and a car that required many repairs,” she said.

Getting a safe, stable place to call home changed everything. In the eight years Dorian lived in a Beyond Housing home she didn’t have to worry about housing and could focus on her long-term goals. “Because of the many services Beyond Housing offers in addition to their rental services, I was able to turn things around.”

With help from Beyond Housing, Dorian earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Washington University in St. Louis, improved her credit, and was able to buy a three-bedroom house in Webster Groves. She wrote to us to say, “None of this would have been possible without Beyond Housing and the support that you offer.”

Through the Hawthorne Society, you can help more families like Dorian and her kids find safety and stability.

Member donations totaling $35,049 have allowed us to complete rehab on homes for our first two Hawthorne families.

With new windows and major repairs to the stairs, roof, and siding, the house on Old Hanley has become a great place to live once more!

Now that tuck-pointing and mold abatement have been completed at Cory Place, the house is ready to be a home again!
