About Michael McDonald

Michael McDonald was born in St. Louis, Missouri and from the moment he stepped up to the mic as a vocalist for Steely Dan, Michael McDonald commanded listeners’ attention — and he’s continued to earn it over the ensuing decades, first as a member of the Doobie Brothers and then as a solo artist and periodic guest on other people’s records. Today he is an Grammy award-winning song-writer and singer recording hits including "Takin' It to the Streets" and "What a Fool Believes."

After the Doobie Brothers disbanded, McDonald continued to perform and collaborate as a solo artist and wrote songs for acts as diverse as Carly Simon and Van Halen. "On My Own," a duet with Patti LaBelle, reached the top of the charts in 1986. In 1991, he released "Ever Changing Times" with Aretha Franklin. He received two Grammy Award nominations in 2003 for an album paying tribute to the Motown sound of the 1960s and '70s.
