We’re excited to share that this year’s Beyond the Backpack event, held this past August 10th at Normandy High School, was a great success.
Helping students and families prepare for the first day of school sets the tone for the rest of the year. This is why each year, Beyond Housing and Normandy Schools Collaborative in partnership with other organizations, volunteers, and corporate partners come together to ensure that students have everything they need to start the school year off right.
This year’s highlights include:
- Over 2,000 in attendance
- 1,000 free Adidas shoes for NSC students
- Hundreds of immunizations, health and dental check-ups and asthma screenings
- And the support of over 50 non-profit organizations along with key stakeholders and leaders of the community
We’d like to especially thank Novo Nordisk for donating, assembling, and shipping 3,000 backpacks filled with school supplies, Affinia Healthcare for providing free health screenings and dental services, Children’s Hospital for providing free asthma screenings and education, and Sneakers with Soul for providing 1,000 free sneakers.
Beyond the Backpack is just one example of how Beyond Housing brings corporate partners, civic leaders, volunteers, and partner organizations together to strengthen families and communities within North St. Louis County.
