In a recent article written by U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, McCaskill talked about the importance of community development. She praised several St. Louis area groups that have taken the community development scene by storm, including Beyond Housing. McCaskill also touched on the funding these organizations receive from Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) and other grants that are administered by the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Without these federal funds, a lot of St. Louis community development initiatives would be stifled. McCaskill then went into the issue with the new budget plans proposed by the President’s administration that will cut these grants completely. She finished with a call to action asking each of us to continue to fight for and invest in our communities.
