“My name is Dick Gephardt. I grew up in St. Louis many years ago and I represented a large part of St. Louis City and County in the United States House of Representatives for 28 years.
Right now, I want to share with you information about a crisis affecting many families in St. Louis and across the United states.
While inflation has been challenging for many, many people, low-income families are really struggling. These families live paycheck to paycheck in good times, so now they are really struggling with rent and utilities and food costs.
They are a single event away from disaster. Beyond Housing is an organization in St. Louis trying to reverse decades of decline in North St. Louis County and create opportunities for struggling families.
But right now, rising costs are impacting Beyond Housing’s ability to help people and their donations, which they have to depend on, are way down. All this is happening when Beyond Housing is celebrating 50 years of serving people in North St. Louis County.
So much progress has been made that is now in jeopardy. So, we cannot leave so many people behind in St. Louis County.
